During the Indus civilisation, the button existed as ornament. It was only later in 13^th CE Germany that they were used as functional fasteners of clothing.

And so, we can conclude that a button is not a button without a buttonhole. And a half is not a half without another half.

Buttons are charged objects—

unbuttoning is intimate,

unbuttoning requires consent.

Through designing an interface for a printer, I explored the notions of intimacy associated with a button.
